okay personally i think they are all important but heres the MOST if you wanna understand the show lol…. a lot of them are important to set up the relationships between everyone and why they are the way they are.. the ones with the biggest events arent necessarily the most important. im gonna tell you the most important ones and just the good ones that are my favs im telling you those in case you have time because theyre the best

1:01 the pilot episode
1:04 crash into you
1:05 all that you can’t leave behind (you get to know dan here)
1:06 every night is another story (a personal favorite)
1:12 crash course in polite conversations
1:13 hanging by a moment (a big event episode)
1:15 suddenly everything has changed (a bitter peyton/brooke episode)
1:17 spirit in the night (not important, just funny :] )
1:18 to wish impossible things (also funny, don’t have to watch it)
1:22 the games that play us

theres a lot from season 1 you need to know just to learn about the characters and their relationships

2:01 the desperate kingdom of love (only to show how haley and nathan get married)
2:03 near wild heaven (not important but a personal favorite lol)
2:04 you can’t always get what you want
2:05 I will dare (pretty much my fav episode every lol its really funny but not that important so you don’t have to watch it)
2:08 truth, bitter truth (slumber party ep. funny and a favorite lol)
2:11 the heart brings you back
2:13 the hero dies in this one
2:16 somewhere a clock is ticking (a lot happens here)
2:22 the tide that left and never came back
2:23 the leavers dance

a lot of stuff happened in the 2nd season but some of it wasnt that important. those were in my opinion the best and most important

3:01 like you an arsonist
3:04 an attempt to tip the scales (funny and a favorite)
3:05 a multitude of casualties
3:06/3:07 (boy draft is really funny lol but not important really)
3:09 how a resurrection really feels (lol funny parts and important)
3:10 brave new world
3:13 the wind that blew my heart away (just a good episode, not important though)
3:15 just watch the fireworks (time capsule episode)
3:16 with tired eyes,tired minds, tired souls, we slept (prob the most important of the season)
3:18 when it isn’t like it should be (just a favorite lol not important)
3:19 i slept with someone from fallout boy and all i got….
3:22 the show must go on

those are the highlights of the 3rd season plus some of my favorites lol

4:01 the same deep water as you
4:03 good news for people who love bad news (just for peytons half brother)
4:05 i love you but i’ve chosen darkness (super important and action filled lol)
4:06 where did you sleep last night? (really good if you like the drama but isnt all that important)
4:09 some you give away (LOVE this episode.. its hilarious lol but its also pretty important)
4:12 resolve (personal favorite but not too important)
4:13 pictures of you (my favorite episode ever! but you don’t need to watch it)
4:14 sad songs for dirty lovers
4:15 prom night at hater high
4:16 you call it madness but i call it love
4:17 it gets worse at night
4:21 all of a sudden i miss everyone

well the 4th season was my absolute favorite so i suggest watching them all! but if you don’t have time then just watch the ones i said above i hope you enjoy

5:01 four years, six months, and two days
5:09 for tonight youre only here to know

honestly those are the only two i suggest watching because personally i hated the 5th season. i hated nanny carrie and lindsay and the whole season just made me mad… but you can take someone elses advice if you want and actually watch it. you don’t really need to though.
