I think it’s kind of poor plotting on the writer’s part to only mention her mother once in like the first season and then bring her on for this big emotional story. People can relate and feel sad for Haley and sympathize what she’s going through, but the audience doesn’t have an emotional attachment to their mother. The transition could have been much better.

we already had a cancer and mom storyline with peyton so i feel this is unnecessary why bring back haley’s mom who we haven’t seen or heard of since season two only to tell us she’s dying of something we’ve already seen on the show

@rsjj so true, they are repeating themselves.

Ellie’s cancer storyline isn’t the same as Lydia’s. Sure they’re both “cancer” but Ellie wasn’t a mom to Peyton the same way that Lydia is to Haley/Quinn/Taylor. For Ellie/Peyton it was more about missed opportunities. About how they could’ve been a great part in each other’s lives and they didn’t have much time. Lydia’s cancer is breaking a family apart; how a family member you’ve known all your life and depended on for just as long is dying. Someone you always imagined will be in your future.

@1TreeHillRULEZ i agree. I see lots of ppl complaining that they’re repeating the cancer storyline, but it’s different in this case, also in terms of the type of cancer.
