Peyton and Haley team up with Brooke in a trifecta road trip to NYC for the fashion experience of a lifetime. They’re confident that they will have no problem taking the Big Apple by storm and then hopping a plane nine hours later to get to the Charlotte for the cheer competition. Brooke is pleased that Rachel is going to hate her success and Peyton is pleased that she is really living life the way Ellie would have liked.
Meanwhile, Whitey is running a tight ship on the team bus to Charlotte. Rules will be rules this year and that also goes for the chaperones, Karen and Keith, who can’t stop making out in the back of the bus. And once in Charlotte, Rachel turns extremely bossy, with her own strict rules and that doesn’t sit so well with the rest of the gals.
Once they get to NYC, Roguevogue Brooke discovers that a change has been made. Her clothes don’t show until the second day. Looks like she has a choice to make. She decides to stay, but sends the girls off to Charlotte. Later, it’s crazy at the show but Brooke manages to locate her model, Solaris. She’s fifteen but looks much older and Solaris decides that she’s going to take Miss Brooke out on the town that night. Brooke, naturally, is game. But that night when Solaris does some serious drugs in the VIP room, Brooke quickly realizes that she’s swimming in the deep end — and the folks in the fashion world are the sharks.
Keith has a romantic room all set up to share with Karen, complete with champagne and all. But then Whitey barges in and announces that he’ll be rooming with Keith — they don’t want to be a bad influence on the kids. Later, during what was supposed to be a romantic dinner for two, Whitey barges in again to invite Keith on a bowling date. The good guy that he is, Keith agrees to hang with the old guy.
Nathan’s friend Tony from High Flyers arrives at the hotel and convinces Nathan and Lucas to head out for a wild night. Their wild night turns out to be an evening with his family, as well as a home-cooked dinner, and an enlightening talk with Tony’s father. Pops could have played pro ball, but instead he had a family — and that’s just fine with him. After all, regret makes you old and bitterness poisons the people around you. Too bad Dan wasn’t at that dinner — he could have learned a lot. But the lessons weren’t lost on the Scott brothers.
As soon as she arrives in Charlotte, Rachel tells her that she’s not much of a listener but she does have tequila in her room. Peyton thinks that sounds like a plan. While in the room, Bevan calls Rachel to tell her that there has been a change of rooms. Now Haley is sleeping with her, and by all means don’t let Peyton go to her original room — Lucas is there now. Rachel knows the past that Peyton and Lucas share, and she doesn’t bother to mention the room change to her drinking buddy.
Peyton ends up getting really drunk with Rachel, who walks her to her room and tells her to "enjoy." Peyton staggers in the room and slips into bed with Lucas who assures his friend that everything is going to be all right. They wake up in the morning and Lucas informs Peyton that she was drunk enough to throw up six times the night before. Obviously, nothing romantic happened.
Haley surprises Nathan in his room with candles and a bubble bath. The next morning Haley wants to order room service but Nathan wants to have a proper sit-down breakfast somewhere — family-style. Haley agrees wholeheartedly.
After she flees the club, Brooke gets brilliant advice from an insightful cabbie — off the meter of course. He tells her that she has a long life and she should try to start making it great right now. Brooke decides be seventeen with her friends. She leaves the show and gives up a possible apprenticeship with Donna Karan and her own label to fly to Charlotte. As soon as she gets to the hotel, she discovers Lucas and Peyton in bed together and immediately thinks the worst. Lucas chases Brooke down the hall and explains that nothing happened — he slept on the floor. He also reminds her that they’re supposed to be trusting each other, and Peyton really needs both of them now.
When the cheer team gets together for the competition, Peyton lays into Rachel for trying to be devious and they’re all happily surprised to see Brooke. Well, everyone but Rachel is happy to see her. At the competition, Rachel is all business — she wants to win the trophy. But Brooke tells the girls to have fun. On stage the routine is a disaster. Totally hung over, Peyton can’t seem to keep up. And when she falls and causes others to fall with her, Brooke leads the team in a playful, joking dance to round out the routine. Even The Ravens join them on stage. Everyone has a ball — except for Rachel who stands backstage, bitter.
Meanwhile, Keith and Karen cuddle in the audience. And in a moment of spontaneity, Karen proposes to him. He tells her she can’t propose to him — he was going to ask he
